President Barack Obama has invited Detroit Mayor Dave Bing to participate in a forum on jobs and economic growth.
Bing will travel Thursday to the White House.
Dow Chemical Co. CEO Andrew Liveris, Dow Corning Corp. CEO Stephanie Burns, University of Michigan Public Policy Dean Susan Collins, Automation Alley executive director Ken Rogers and CEO Noel Cuellar of Primera Plastics, a minority-owned precision plastics injection molding company based in Zeeland, also will attend.
The summit will focus on combating chronic joblessness and encouraging more businesses to hire.
Michigan has the nation’s highest unemployment rate at 15.1 percent, while Detroit’s rate is nearly 28 percent. The national rate is 10.2 percent.
