A FORTY-THREE year-old man who drove himself a Detroit hospital Monday night survived three gunshot wounds to the head. But police are still trying to determine whether the blood and matter discovered in his SUV is all his, according to investigators.
“There was a lot of blood and matter in the vehicle, and we’re trying to determine if it was all his or possibly another victim,” Detroit Police spokesman John Roach said this morning. “He said there was no one with him at the time, but we’re still trying to determine if that’s accurate.”
All three wounds plus a wound to the wrist just grazed the man, who walked in to the emergency room at Sinai Grace Hospital at about 10:30 p.m. Monday.
Both the driver’s and passenger’s side front windows of his 1998 Lincoln Navigator were shattered from gunshots.
He told police he was shot outside a party store near Sorrento Street and West McNichols, just west of the Lodge Freeway on the city’s west side. But investigators couldn’t find any shell casings or evidence of an altercation at that location, Roach said.
“We’re going to be checking to see if there’s any video from the party store,” Roach said, adding that the victim is on parole for a sexual conduct charge. “We think there’s something more to it, but we’re still trying to get a handle on what that is.”
