Lansing native and former WDIV-TV (Channel 4) reporter Chris Hansen returned to Metro Detroit to figure out what it will take to revitalize the Motor City. The result is his “Dateline” special titled “America Now: City of Heartbreak and Hope.”
The hour-long program, which airs at 7 p.m. Sunday on NBC, allows Hansen to take a personal look at the city while interviewing those who are attempting to make a change for the better. Much of “America Now: City of Heartbreak and Hope” is told through the eyes of Detroiter Cordette Grantling, a woman who takes in and cares for abandoned children.
Hansen also visits several of the city’s most troubled schools, talks to Detroit Mayor Dave Bing, Detroit Police Chief Warren Evans, homegrown music star Kid Rock and scandal-laden political consultant Sam Riddle.
