    This week is National Eating Disorder Awareness Week.  When you hear the term “Eating Disorder”, you may think African-Americans especially women can’t relate.  However, current trends and studies beg to differ.

    A study published by PBS Nova Online revealed younger, more educated and perfecting seeking African-American women are most at risk of succumbing to eating disorders.  Click here for full article

    Eating Disorders can range from Anorexia nervosa , Binge eating and Bulimia.

    Here are some interesting facts according to the National Institute of Health:

    • Women are more likely than men to have eating disorders.
    • It usually starts in teenage years.
    • Eating disorders often occurs with depression, anxiety disorders and substance abuse.
    • Eating disorders can cause heart and kidney problems and even death.

    Early detection is key in addition to getting the help and treatment you need.
