Detroit used the eighth selection to boost their team after a disappointing 30-52 season. The 6’3″ 177-pound point guard took Kentucky to the Final Four this past season. HE is considered a versatile player, who can play both point guard and shooting guard.
“He was a talent we couldn’t pass up,” President/GM Joe Dumars said.
Knight averaged 17.3 points, 4.0 rebounds, and 4.2 assists per game in his freshman season. His assist to turnover ratio was 1.33. In comparison, the Pistons Rodney Stuckey assist to turnover ratio was 2.33 in 2010-11 after averaging 5.2 assists a contest.
Knight won the National Gatorade Player of the Year award twice during his time at Pine Crest School in Fort Lauderdale, FL. Only Greg Oden and LeBron James won the award more the once before Knight. He also participated in the 2010 McDonald’s All-American Game in Columbus, OH where he hit the game-winning 3-pointer.
