NBC’s reality weight loss show The Biggest Loser is heading to metro Detroit Saturday in search of contestants for the show’s upcoming season.
Individuals and teams of two can audition for the 13th season of the show from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Gardner-White Furniture, 45300 Hayes Road, Macomb, Mich.
The show features overweight contestants shedding pounds through dieting and exercise as they fight for the grand prize of $250,000. Previous contestants have won new vehicles, cash prizes, and more important, a “new lease on life.”
“It’s like living a completely different life where they’re no longer restricted by their weight,” said Vanessa Bond, casting director for the show. “They’ll be able to grow old with their spouse or see their kids and grandkids grow up. It’s hard work, but they’re adding years to their life.”
Last year, tens of thousands of candidates applied for the show, but in the end just 11 teams of two were accepted.
Producers haven’t yet decided if the 13th season will be for teams or individuals, Ms. Bond said. The season will be two months longer than previous editions, giving contestants additional time to lose weight.
Like before, participants will be challenged by temptations, strenuous workouts, and weigh-ins. One contestant will be eliminated each week, until the final person remains to claim the title.
The goal is to lose the highest percentage of weight to become the Biggest Loser. Candidates must be 18 years old or older, have a desire to lose weight and a competitive edge. Anyone who cannot make it to the casting call can apply by submitting a video.
