A TV manufacturer is opening a new plant in Canton and plans to hire 100 workers.
Element Electronics says the facility will make flat screen TVs that will be sold at stores like Target, Walmart and Costco.
The company believes the new production plant will be the only one in the U.S. to assemble TVs.
Element Electronics is headquartered in Minneapolis. The company’s president said he had planned to expand in the Midwest for a while.
“We have watched for years as jobs have left America for other countries,” said Mike O’Shaughnessy, company president. “We have wanted to and planned for producing TV’s here, at home. Element Electronics wants to pioneer a resurgence of creating quality manufacturing jobs in the USA.”
O’Shaughnessy said Michigan was a good choice because of a qualified labor pool and distribution efficiencies.
The plant will be located in a facility shared by Lotus International, off Commerce Boulevard near Warren Road and I-275.
Production could begin as early as March.
More information on how to apply for jobs at Element Electronics is expected to be posted on the company’s website .
