The Lions are keeping the best wide receiver in football in Detroit.
Calvin Johnson has agreed to a seven-year contract extension worth a reported $132 million. The figure includes the 2012 season, totaling eight seasons and ensuring Johnson is under contract through 2019.
The Pro Bowl wide receiver’s new deal will give Detroit some much needed cap space. Nate Burleson, Matthew Stafford, and Ndamukong Suh all restructured their contracts this month to free up cap room.
Johnson’s deal is the most lucrative for a wide receiver in the NFL’s history.
A press conference is scheduled for 1pm to announce the extension. Johnson is reportedly on his way to Allen Park.
