O.J. Murdock, who was an undrafted wide receiver with the Tennessee Titans, died this morning of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound. He was found inside his car around 8:30 this morning in front of his former high school. Murdock was excused from training camp this weekend for personal reasons.
Murdock signed with the Titans as an undrafted free agent last season and spent the year on the injured reserve list. He was a standout at Middleton High School in Tampa, and then attended the University of South Carolina, where he played briefly. Murdock was suspended from the Gamecocks indefinitely after being arrested for shoplifting.
Sports Illustrated’s Mike Rosenberg points out that Murdock was a teammate of Kenny McKinley at South Carolina. McKinley died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound in 2009.
