While campaigning in Florida, President Barack Obama was hugged by a pizza shop owner named Scott Van Duzer. While giving the president a hug isn’t news on its own, this hug was a bit more energetic than most. Scott, a tall, muscle-bound man, shook President Obama’s hand multiple times before grabbing him around the waist and lifting him off the ground.
Van Duzer describes himself as a Republican, but he “doesn’t vote along party lines,” said ITN News. He voted for Obama in 2008 and will again in 2012.
The Big Apple Pizza & Pasta parlour in Florida was serving calzones with a side of philosophy Tuesday, under attack from Republicans incensed the owner turned “traitor.”
With one high-profile bear hug, Scott van Duzer turned into an Obamaphile Sunday and immediately into a pizza pariah.
“I will not eat from traitor’s hands and I’ll never take food from man who DIDN’T BUILD his business,” wrote ib G of Las Vegas, Nev., on the Yelp reviewing page for the business.
From 5,000 kilometres away, Leyla K. of Glendale, Calif., wrote: “You are officially a member of Obama’s socialist outfit. I bookmarked your ‘business’ to never set foot in there.”
And so on, for more than 2,000 “reviews.”
“We’re all kind of puzzled,” a restaurant worker admitted to the Star on Tuesday. “Politics brings out the best and worst in people.”
