Tameria Greene (pictured) was found lying on the kitchen floor in the East Detroit apartment she shared with her mother and four other siblings Sunday morning, with a single stab would to her chest.
Police arrested Greene’s mother, but have not charged her with murder, pending further investigation.
“In the end, I still say the system failed these people because they have a record,” said Sandrew King, who organized the vigil. “The sister said there [are] police records, there [are] CPS records. The system could’ve done something to prevent this.”
While family members claim the mother was an innocent victim of domestic violence, neighbors told myFoxDetroit that she was abusive and neglectful to her children. She also had a history of drug and alcohol abuse, sources say. Reportedly, Child Protective Services previously removed the children from the home, an alarming revelation for many attending the vigil.

Officials have placed Greene’s four brothers back in foster care. That has done little to alleviate their paternal grandmother’s frustation.
“The system [does] know what they did, they definitely know what they did. The last thing I’m going to say it’s a tragedy that should not have happened at all,” Aliya Johnson said.
