Dallas R&B star Erykah Badu can’t help it. Everything that comes out of her mouth is loaded with ammunition. Case in point is her tweet from late this morning: “I feel like goin up in apple store with my pistol right now.” Those are fighting words from the woman who titled her acclaimed 2000 album Mama’s Gun.
Turns out Badu was having some trouble with her phone so she decided to rant at Apple. A couple of earlier tweets have Badu writing: “iCloud bout to be iBadu. I’m losing $ with my contacts disappearing daily. And I got some Russian? contacts now. Turn it off.” And this one: “Where are my contacts going? WHY are they leavin? And WHEN are they coming back?”
Badu’s obvious poor choice of words can no doubt spark concern during a time when gun control is a blazing hot topic after the Sandy Hook Elementary school massacre late last year. The R&B singer, songwriter and performance artist is no stranger to controversy, of course. She got the pot boiling in Malaysia last February after a photograph appeared in a local newspaper of her donning the Arabic word for Allah written on her bare shoulders. Last June, she tried to distance herself from her appearance on the shocking video to the Flaming Lips’ “Western Esotericism. And naturally there’s the infamous 2010 video shoot for her single “Window Seat” when she completely disrobed before bystanders as she walked down Dealey Plaza.
