Calvin Johnson is going to take some time to heal the many wounds suffered in his record-breaking 2012 season.
The All-Pro receiver will not play in the Pro Bowl on Jan. 27, according to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Bucs receiver Vincent Jackson will replace Johnson, whose injuries this season included a hand, knee and ankle.
Johnson had 1,964 receiving yards in 2012, breaking Jerry Rice’s single-season NFL record, along with several other league and franchise records.
After Johnson dropped out Tuesday, the Lions announced long snapper Don Muhlbach would play in the game. He was selected personally by the Packers coaching staff.
Even though Johnson won’t play, he said last month he’ll likely take the Lions receivers on a trip to Hawaii, as he did when he passed on last year’s Pro Bowl.
Johnson’s absence from the all-star game in Honolulu briefly left the Lions without a representative before the Muhlbach announcement.
Defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh and quarterback Matthew Stafford are both alternates, but neither has been tapped for the game yet.
