DETROIT (WJBK) – Two police officers were shot in the line of duty Tuesday on Detroit’s west side. A suspect was also killed during a shootout on Linwood between Hooker and McGraw.The officers were rushed to Henry Ford Hospital. We’ve learned a Detroit Police officer that was shot in the head three times is in temporary serious condition. A Detroit Police sergeant that was shot in the leg is in stable condition. He will be released from the hospital within the next 24 hours.At a news conference, Detroit Police Chief Chester Logan said it all started around 6:15 p.m. The CVRP and ATF Task Force made up of several agencies were going after a man suspected in a March 28 murder. They attempted to pull him over in the 3700 block of 25th Street, but that suspect with two passengers in his vehicle tried to get away.

“The vehicle was finally stopped at Linwood and Hooker where the suspect in the homicide fired shots at the officers, who returned fire. Two officers were shot. The suspect was fatally wounded. At this time, we will be providing no further details,” Logan said.
We’ve learned the two passengers in the vehicle, a man and a woman, have been taken into custody.
We also know the names of the police officer and the sergeant that were shot, but are not releasing them at this time out of respect to their families. We can tell you the officer has been on the job since 2001 and the sergeant since 1989.
