New Detroit Police Chief James Craig is likely to re-start the police gang squad that was dismantled just months ago.

The squad will have a new name, but the same goal and message.

Crime Commission Director Andy Arena tells Local 4 the numbers speak for themselves — research shows there are 2,500 confirmed gang members in the city and 1 out of every 280 residents is connected to a gang.In March, then Police Chief Chester Logan and city leaders announced a plan that would dismantle the gang squad and tactical mobile units and use the officers to help beef-up street patrols. detroit-gang-squad
