Federal food safety inspectors are investigating reports of phony bottles of Gatorade showing up in Denver stores with a label featuring Tiger Woods, his wife, Elin, and the word “Unfaithful.”
The bottles, which began appearing in some stores on Saturday, are apparently a “pop art” project, KUSA TV reports.
KUSA says it tracked down an e-mail hidden in the label’s small print to Jason Kay of Longmont, Colo., who claims he helped a friend pull off a “pop art” project designed to create conversation.
Kay tells KUSA that 1,000 “Unfaithful” bottles were planted in stores from Longmont to Denver.
KUSA reporter Kyle Clark says the FDA’s Office of Criminal Investigations is looking into possible tampering or adulteration of the product. Even if the drink is uncontaminated, KUSA says, the perpetrator could face a federal tampering charge.
