The Minnesota Lynx swept the Atlanta Dream this week and are WNBA Champions for the second time in three years, yet no one seems to realize it, which leads me to this statement: It’s Time to Wake up and Watch Women’s Basketball.
When it comes to basketball it’s easy for certain players to get over looked and while in College Basketball and the NBA there plenty of players that are overlooked, I feel there are more females basketball players overlooked both in College Basketball and the WNBA. Why? Mainly because I feel not enough people watch women’s basketball from the college level to the professional level. For some reason people typically tend to only pay attention to who the media is talking about when it comes to women’s basketball.
For example, Britney Griner, Skylar Diggins, Candace Parker and Maya Moore are probably most talked about in women’s basketball when it comes to the media and general fans and for good reason. They are all playing at a high level right now and helping their teams to grow and get better. However there is more to women’s basketball besides them.
They are all amazing players, but they aren’t the only amazing players. Need I mention Cappie Pondexter, Candace Dupree, Lindsey Harding, Candace Wiggins, Sylvia Fowles, Sophia Young and that’s just to name a few.
Personally, I think the WNBA is probably at one of its highest point since being created in 1996. The talent level, explosiveness and competitiveness has gotten better each and every year, yet not enough people are aware of it.
