An image of Adreian Payne carrying Lacey Holworth after the Iowa-Michigan game

D.L. Hughley recognizes the Michigan State Spartans’ Adreian Payne as this week’s Human Being of the Week. The college senior was chosen for his thoughtful and heartwarming friendship with Lacey Holsworth, an 8-year-old little girl diagnosed with a rare, and potentially fatal, form of cancer called neuroblastoma.

According to the Detroit Free Press, Payne met Lacey while he was visiting a children’s hospital:

“She calls me her ‘Superman,’ but she’s the one who’s got the super strength,” Payne said. “She’s incredible with everything she’s gone through. [Doctors] told her she wouldn’t walk again. But she did. She’s just an incredible fighter. And if I can bring her a little bit of happiness to help her forget everything for a little while, then that’s what I want to do.”
