    4 Black Women will Transform a “White Sister” Weekly on New Lifetime Series ‘Girlfriend Intervention’

    The Lifetime network has announced that it’s picked up four new unscripted series to add to its primetime lineup, including a handful featuring black cast members. First: a complete makeover series titled “Girlfriend Intervention,” which stars “four wise, poised and stylish African American women, who, in each episode, help a white sister seeking a complete makeover to restore her confidence and inner glow,” according to the press release.     Donald Sterling Agrees to Drop Lawsuit Over Clippers Sale, Accept Huge Payday

    If you were looking forward to reading about months, or possibly years of legal wrangling between Donald Sterling and the NBA, we have some bad news. On Wednesday, the racist Los Angeles Clippers owner agreed to drop his lawsuit against the NBA and allow the team to be sold to former Microsoft chief executive Steve Ballmer for $2 billion. Sterling’s attorney, Maxwell Blecher, said he “has made an agreement with the NBA to resolve all their differences,” so it appears that Sterling will not be sued or fined $2.5 million by the league (though he’s still banned for life). When asked about the sale by a local NBC affiliate on Tuesday night,Sterling said, “I feel fabulous, I feel very good. Everything is just the way it should be, really. It may have worked out differently, but it’s good. It’s all good.” Spoken like a man whose racist remarks just earned him $1 billion. Read more.

    Suspect Arrested in Fatal Stabbing of 6-Year-Old Brooklyn Boy

    Less than an hour after detectives named him as a suspect at a Wednesday evening press conference, Daniel St. Hubert was arrested for allegedly stabbing two children on Sunday, leaving a 6-year-old boy dead. Police said they were able to identify the 27-year-old after running DNA found on a knife at the crime scene through the New York State database. St. Hubert has nine prior arrests and has assaulted a Department of Correction officer and an NYPD officer. Read more.

    Morgan Freeman to Don Lemon: Race Has No Impact on Income Inequality

    Actor Morgan Freeman is making the media rounds this week to promote his new series Through the Wormhole on the Science Channel. Tuesday night, he sat down for a chat with CNN’s Don Lemon that touched on the role that race does — or doesn’t — play when it comes to wealth distribution in America. Asked by Lemon if race plays a role in wealth distribution, Freeman answered, “Today?     Two college basketball players killed in car accident

    Two women’s basketball players for Texas A&M-Commerce were killed in a car accident Tuesday night, the university announced on its website. Aubree Butts, 20, and her teammate Devin Oliver, 21, were passengers in a four-door sedan carrying them and two other teammates. The sedan was struck by an 18-wheel tractor-trailer around 6:30 p.m, CT. Read more.

    H&M Pays $100,000 For Wrongful Arrest Of African-American Grandma

    A jury in Multnomah County, Oregon found 59-year-old grandmother Brenda Moaning falsely arrested for shoplifting at a local H&M store, and awarded her more than $105,000 for battery, false arrest, and punitive damages. KOIN6 reports that the May 2011 incident began when Moaning prepaid at the register for a $5 tee at the front of the store, than placed it in her bag on the way out. Two loss prevention officers and a H&M security guard grabbed her and forced her into a security room, even after the clerk acknowledged Moaning’s purchase. According to court documents, Moaning was told that she “looked like a common thief.” Read more.
