The Heidelberg Project draws a lot of tourists year round, but it has also drawn some troublemakers. Now, Heidelberg officials say it’s time for some upgraded security.
Solar panels gather energy to power security cameras and the power also energizes street lights on the art installation’s street. Multiple Michigan-based companies coordinated the instillation of the new security and lighting system hoping it will deter future attempts arson and mischief.
The ATF has access to view activity on Heidelberg Street at any time. More than 900 donors generously kicked in $50,000 to upgrade the system. The unsolved arson cases are still being investigated by the ATF and the Detroit Fire Department.
