    From the Washington Post:

Supreme Court nominee Elena Kagan faced tough questioning from Republican lawmakers Tuesday as the Senate Judiciary Committee began a second day of confirmation hearings.

The opening round of questioning comes a day after Kagan told the panel that she would bring a “modest” approach to the Supreme Court and show great deference to the other, elected branches of government.

Kagan defended her view of Marshall, for whom she clerked in 1988, telling the committee that he played a major role in making the principle of equal protection under the law a reality for minorities.
