WESTLAND, Mich. — Westland police continue to search for a gunman who shot another man during the city’s Fourth of July fireworks show Sunday night.
Witnesses said two men got into an argument at the Westland City Hall Grounds on Ford Road and Carlson Street during the fireworks grand finale.
One man pulled out a gun and shot the other man in the leg near a concession stand, police said.
Police said that as the gunman fled the scene, chaos broke out, and a pregnant woman was pushed to the ground.
The shooting victim was taken to a nearby hospital and expected to be OK. There is no word on the pregnant woman’s condition.
The festival’s Vice Chairman, Levi Buzle, told Local 4 he was very disappointed that the incident happened at a family-friendly event.
“It’s very sad that something like this happens. It should never happen any place in Michigan. … People need to stop this,” said Buzle.
Anyone with information is asked to call the Westland Police Department.
