• Suh Due At Afternoon Lions Practice

    That was more or less the Lions’ take this morning after they confirmed the signing of No. 2 overall pick Ndamukong Suh to a five-year contract that could pay him as much as $68 million, with $40 million guaranteed.

    “While we would have liked to do it earlier, and I am sure Ndamukong would have liked to do it earlier, it’s done and over with and he has a lot of training camp ahead of him,” Lions president Tom Lewand said.

    Lewand said Suh was expected to land at Detroit Metro around noon and would participate in the afternoon practice (3:15 p.m.). In all, Suh missed seven practices over four days, which, Lewand said, is hardly the end of the world.

    “It really depends on what he does from here on out,” Lewand said. “As Jim (Schwartz, head coach) said, there’s no replacing the practices that he missed. But at the same time, there’s been a lot of players who have missed seven practices for a lot of different reasons.
